I came into work this morning
Sat at my desk and started in
I pushed some papers while I waited
For the daily gossip to begin
When a woman sitting near me
Started telling where she'd been

It seems her man took her to dinner
At some fancy schmancy place
As she talked about the menu
A great big smile came to my face
When she described the prime rib special
My mind went into space

I was picturing those juices
Dripping on the plate
Thinking how those juices
Sure would taste great
Then I thought about the peanut butter and jelly sandwich in my lunchbag
A tear came to my eye
'Cause when you're craving a prime rib dinner
Nothing else will satisfy

Well, I tried to get some work done
But I was useless as a bug
Thought I'd drink a little coffee
But when I picked up my mug
I missed my mouth and spilled it
On my shirt, my pants, my desk and on the rug

I looked inside my wallet
Dollar sixty-three
I knew that prime rib dinner
Wouldn't be happening for me
Why I didn't even have enough for McDonald's
It almost made me sick
'Cause when you're craving a prime rib dinner
Nothing else will do the trick

I got home in the evening
Opened my fridge door
When I saw the contents
I nearly fell on the floor
There was turkey, ham, baloney, eggs, bacon
And a couple of leftover stews
So it looks like I'm stuck here
Still singing the prime rib dinner blues
